Children in St.Peter's N.S are encouraged to cycle to school and we have a lovely bike shelter at the front of the school to park bikes. Every year students from sixth class participate in a bicycle handing course given by Mr. Gerry Butler on the school grounds. The students practice hand signals, braking correctly, safety on a bicycle etc.
Students also participate in a safe cycling competition around Castlebar town which is organised by the Road Safety Authority.
Recently students visited Turlough House Museum with their bikes. They viewed an exhibition on bicycles from the past, received a presentation from the RSA on bike safety and maintainence and finally went for a cycle on a section of the new Green Way which is connected up to the Museum. Many thanks to the RSA for a great day.
